A Lifetime of Loving Christ
Speaker:
Matthew Arnold
Date:
Lay Minister Matthew Arnold takes us to The Gospel of John 21 where the risen Jesus meets His disciples by the sea and restores Peter after his failure. Through this powerful moment of grace, we are reminded that loving Jesus is the foundation of the Christian life and that His mercy calls us back into faithful service no matter our past. Turn with us to this passage and be encouraged that a life devoted to loving Christ will overflow into loving others and enduring faithfully to the end.
Silence
Pastor J. S. Melvin recounts the story, recorded in 1 Samuel 28, of Saul's response to God's silence. Unlike Saul's, our response should not be to panic, fill the void with noise, nor respond with our emotions. Instead we should go back to God's Word, and know that in Christ, silence never has the final word.
You Can Change the World
Speaker:
Jeff Winfrey
Date:
Elder Jeff Winfrey from Dawson Springs Primitive Baptist Church began our Spring Meeting in Hebrews 13:2. As a born again child of God you have in you what you need to make the choices each moment of each day to make a difference in your world and show your Lord and Savior how much you love him for what he has done for you.
The Battle Inside
Pastor J. S. Melvin continues his series in 1 Samuel showing us that sometimes our most dagnerous conversations are with ourselves. When our discouragement threatens to destroy us, what ultimately gives us hope is that God's promises depend on God's faithfulness, not our perormance.
Providence Versus Permission
Pastor Melvin takes us to the book of 1 Samuel where David faces a familiar trial in the wilderness, once again standing over King Saul with the chance for revenge. In this powerful moment, we are invited to see how God shapes our hearts not through comfort, but through repeated testing—calling us to trust His justice instead of taking matters into our own hands. This message reminds us that true strength is found in choosing grace over retaliation, pointing us ultimately to Jesus, who received the spear so we could receive forgiveness.
Spiritual Maturity is Ongoing
Turn with Pastor J. S. Melvin to 1 Samuel 25 and listen to the story of David when he comes into contact with the angry, wealthy, foolish man, Nabal. What we learn is that David's success at restraint in the previous chapter does not necessarily guarantee that David will once again take the high ground when his pride is wounded.
When Power Becomes Possible
Pastor Melvin takes us to the book of 1 Samuel where David stands in a cave with King Saul completely vulnerable before him, facing the powerful temptation of revenge. In this defining moment, we’re invited to see that true strength is not found in seizing control, but in trusting God’s timing and refusing to take what He has not yet given. This message points us to Jesus, the greater King, who secured His kingdom not by force but through perfect obedience—reminding us that we can rest in what God has already accomplished.
The Road to Emmaus
Speaker:
Matthew Arnold
Date:
In this message from Gospel of Luke chapter 24, Brother Matthew Arnold walks through the events surrounding the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, culminating in the powerful account of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus. Beginning with the Passover, the crucifixion, and the tearing of the temple veil, the sermon highlights how Christ fulfilled the Old Testament law and opened direct access to God through His sacrifice. The focus then shifts to the discouraged disciples who, overwhelmed by confusion and unmet expectations, leave Jerusalem in despair. As Christ walks with them—unrecognized—He opens the Scriptures and reveals Himself through the truth of the gospel. Their hearts are rekindled not by sight, but by the Word. When their eyes are finally opened, they respond with renewed faith, urgency, and a desire to return to fellowship with other believers. This sermon emphasizes that even in seasons of doubt and weakened faith, God restores His people through His Word, reminding them that true hope is not based on circumstances, but on the finished work of Christ.
The Rock of Escape
Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties, the first 10 minutes or so of video are missing and there is a skip in the audio about 10 minutes into the sermon. Pastor J. S. Melvin takes us to 1 Samuel 23 and shows us through the story of David and his battle with Saul that obedience to God is not a transaction; it is alignment. Always rest in the Lord and know that he has a purpose. Even when you are hunted, you are held.
The Cave
Pastor Melvin takes us to 1 Samuel 22 and shows us how God meets us when we are frightened and, like David, are hiding in the Cave of Adullam. God can turn a cave into a classroom and give us faith to move forward.
When Faith is Messy
Pastor Melvin takes us to 1 Samuel 21, where David runs for his life and wrestles with fear, failure, and survival in a season where God seems silent. In this raw and honest passage, we see that even when faith feels messy and inconsistent, God’s grace never stops pursuing His people. This message invites you to find hope in knowing that even when you’re tired, afraid, and barely holding on, God is still present, still working, and still writing your story.
Preparation by Trial
Pastor Melvin takes us to 1 Samuel 20 and shows us that sometimes we feel, like David, that we have tried to do everything right, but everything is still falling apart. What we find is that sometimes God allows change in our lives, not because we are wrong but because we are ready. Trials are not necessarily corrective; God uses them to prepare us.
The Sunday In Between
Christmas is over, and New Years is not yet here. This is the Sunday in between what happened this year and what is coming next. Turn in your Bibles to 1 Samuel 7, and follow along with Pastor Melvin as he shows us how the children of Israel had unfortunately become complacent in their worship. As we look back on 2025 and ahead to 2026, we should see how God was with us, and we should build stones of remembrance to remind us.
A Christmas Message
Pastor J. S. Melvin takes us to the Gospel of John to expound upon the best news ever.
Christmas is About God Doing the Impossible
Turn in your Bibles to the Gospel of Luke 1 where we learn through the stories of Elizabeth, Ruth, Hannah and others leading up to Mary, how God uses improbable people to bring about the impossible through his mighty power!

The Unstoppable Triumph of God's Plans Over Human Politics, Fear and Failure
Pastor J. S. Melvin takes us to 1 Samuel Chapter 18 and shows us how walking into God's plans sometimes puts you in the path of someone else's jealousy, but when you are walking in God's calling, there is something about you that others will see and be drawn to.
David and Goliath
Pastor Melvin takes us to 1 Samuel 17 and shows us how God is Lord of our valleys in the familiar story of David and Goliath.
God Writes New Chapters
Pastor J. S. Melvin takes us to 1 Samuel 16 and shows us that God sees you when others overlook you, God is shaping you in this current season, God's timing is never rushed, and God uses worship to restore you.
Refuge in the Name of the Lord
Speaker:
Matthew Arnold
Date:
Brother Matthew takes us to Psalm 20:1-9 and Joshua 20 and shows us how the six cities of refuge are a picture of the names of Jesus and the attributes of our Lord and they point to our ultimate high priest, the King of Righteousness, the King of Peace.
The Danger of Almost Obedience
Pastor Melvin takes us to 1 Samuel 15 where we read about Saul taking King Agag alive instead of doing all that God had told him to. Partial obedience is willful disobedience dressed up in religious clothing. Incomplete obedience can leave something alive that will come back and destroy us later. We should obey our Lord, not in order to gain his love, but because he already loves us.
Build Your Altar
Pastor Melvin takes us to 1 Samuel 14:31-52 and shows us how legalism actually produces worse sin in our lives than living in the victory and freedom of God's grace. Even in the middle of the messes you make, you, like Saul, can build an altar to the Lord and acknowledge his preeminence in your life. Know that God is still "speaking" even when silence is his response to your prayers.
Be Strong and of a Good Courage
Elder Coker begins in Numbers 21 where Aaron has just died and the Israelites were discouraged. What do we do when we get discouraged? If we shift our perspective to Jesus and what awaits us in Eternity, we can be encouraged and lay hold on eternal life today!
Nicodemus
Elder Josh Coker takes us to John 3:16 and shows us how this verse is a declaration about rather than an invitation to those who are believing in Christ.
The Promise of the Last Day
Speaker:
Dickie Halbgewchs
Date:
Elder Dickie Halbgewachs begins in 2 Peter 3 and encourages us to look forward to the last day, the day of the Lord, when the King will say as recorded in Matthew 25:34, "Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world."
A Call to Humility
In Philippians 2:1-9, Pastor Josh Coker shows us that we should think of ourselves less and others more.
A Promise for the Ages
Speaker:
Dickie Halbgewchs
Date:
In Genesis 3:14-15, we read about the results of Adam and Eve's transgression. Imagine the weight they felt after their fall, having actually been perfect, unlike any of us. What gave them hope and what gives us strength to go on today is the promise that Christ will prevail!
Legalism
Join Pastor Melvin in 1 Samuel 14:24 where Saul makes a rule forbidding eating until the evening instead of celebrating the victory over the Philistines that God had given Israel that very day. Legalism, adhering to rules in fear of instead of out of love for the law giver, takes the honey out of holiness.
Jonathan's Faith Versus Saul's Fear
Pastor Melvin shows us in 1 Samuel 14:8-23, where Jonathan and his armor bearer go up against the Philistines, that sometimes faith is exhausting! God doesn't "need" you, but he invites you to participate in bringing his will to pass. Instead of measuring your odds, measure your God!
Fire of Jonathan's Faith
Pastor Melvin takes us to 1 Samuel 14:1-7 and shows us how quality (the power of our God) wins out over quantity (our own ability and resourses) every time. Jonathan's faith that he and his armor bearer could defeat 3,000 Philistines was based not in knowing how but in trusting who.
Resting in the Eternal Love of God
Speaker:
Matthew Arnold
Date:
Join Brother Arnold as he takes us to Ephesians 3 and 1 John 4 to explore the profound, unchanging nature of God's love. Discover how you can find your assurance and identity in God's finished work.
When Your Strength Does Not Match Your Struggle
Pastor J. S. Melvin takes us to 1 Samuel 13 and shows us how God can use something small to make a big difference. Victory is not about you or what you have, but about your God and the miracles he can perform.
Our Failures Don't Cancel God's Faithfulness
Pastor J. S. Melvin takes us to 1 Samuel 12 and reminds us not to mistake God's patience for his permission, but instead to run to God, confess our sins, and serve him in gratitude for what he has done for us.
Mountains and Mercy
Pastor Melvin draws from 1 Samuel 11, where Israel faces overwhelming, mountain-sized odds and the temptation to surrender in shame. Yet, God intervenes through unlikely means—raising up Saul and redeeming a troubled city—to bring deliverance and unity. Even when we feel surrounded and inadequate, God’s grace is already at work, turning our weakest moments into opportunities for hope and restoration.
Called from the Ordinary
Pastor Melvin takes us to 1 Samuel 10, showing how God’s sovereignty interrupts the ordinary and calls even the unlikely—like Saul, hiding among the baggage—to extraordinary purpose. Join us to be reminded how God’s grace equips and transforms us, working through our weaknesses to fulfill His plans.
God Qualifies the Chosen
Sometimes when you are going through the motions of the ordinary, God leads you to the extraordinary. Pastor Melvin shows us this in Samuel 9, where we read the story of how Saul, in searching for his father's donkeys, finds Samuel the prophet.
King of Kings on His Throne
Pastor Melvin takes us to 1 Samuel 8 and encourages us that even though we too often make poor decisions and often suffer consequences, God is still in control and in his kindness, mercy and love brings his will to pass.
Liberty in Jesus Christ
Speaker:
Matthew Arnold
Date:
Brother Matthew begins in Luke 4:13-22 and shows us how through Jesus' death upon the cross, he saved us from our fallen state, enslaved to sin, so that we are now free to glorify him and serve him.
Ebenezer
You may feel like you are in the spiritual doldrums today and that your enemies are always gathering, but in 1 Samuel 7, Pastor Melvin shows us that God is still thundering in the hospital room, when you lose your job, in your living room, and in all our distresses and we should mark these moments by raising a stone of remembrance, an Ebenezer, something that reminds us that we were there and so was God.
God at Work
Pastor J.S. Melvin continues our study of 1 Samuel in Chapter 6. Even though the Philistines endeavored to worship God in all of the wrong ways, through grace, God looked on their hearts and accepted their clumsy worship.
God on the Move
What can we do when it feels like our God is not prevailing? In I Samuel 4 the Ark of the Covenant is carried into the house of Dagon, but God was on the move in enemy territory. He is always sovereign, and this gives us so much encouragement.
Guard Rails
Samuel Chapter 4 teaches us to be careful to read God's word and not to go past the guard rails that God has put in place for us.
Speak Lord, for thy Servant Heareth
Are you discouraged by the season in which you find yourself? Do you find a gap between where you are and where you want to be? Keep ministering where you are and keep praying because God is working even if you cannot see it as Pastor J. S. Melvin shows us in 1 Samuel 3.

Grace Throughout the Bible
Pastor Melvin takes us from creation to the Mount of Transfiguration and shows us how Gods amazing grace shines brightly throughout the Bible.
Unity not Uniformity
As we look at Jesus prayer for us in John 17 and the communion service in I Corinthians 11, we see that Jesus seeks for his people to have unity in their worship of him.
The Power of a Place
Pastor Melvin takes us to Acts Chapters 1 & 2 and shows us how important and impactful the places we go are.
Parameters of Your Perspective
When Jesus appears to Thomas in John 20:24, we see an encouraging perspective on Thomas.
What do You do When the Battle Chooses You?
Join Pastor Melvin in 2 Chronicles 20 as he teaches us how to approach the battles that we don't get to choose: with prayer and worship.
Is there Room in Your Life for God?
Sometimes, we get so tired of our disappointment that we bury our hopes so we don't have to feel their pain. In 2 King 4:8-17, A wealthy woman in Shunem had been doing the same thing for years. Yet despite her pain and the ungodly leadership of the time, she had an idea of how to help a man of God and used her time and resources to bring it to fruition. Join Pastor Melvin as he teaches us how to focus on God and create room for him in our lives, no matter how messy, so that we can lay hold of the blessings has has for us here.
Poverty of Perspective
No matter what position we are in right now, we all have deficits. And when the devil can't take away what God has given us, he tries to make us feel like what we have is nothing. In 2 Kings 4:1-7, a certain woman tells Elisha she has sold everything to debt collectors and has "nothing" left. But our God is a big God, and he can do more with our "nothing" then we could do on our own with everything we think we need. Join Pastor Melvin as he tells us how to refocus on God and reap the benefits of his love and sovereignty today.
Let it Flow
Often, the "sudden" droughts in our life are due to lots of gradual decisions. In 2 Kings 3:7-25, Pastor Melvin tells us about Jehoshaphat, a king who was surprised to be without water, and how we can handle the difficult circumstances in our life. Join us as he shows us how to reap our sovereign God's blessings even when we've stumbled. Learn how to dig after mourning.
What Verse Are You On?
Pastor Melvin takes us through 2 Kings 6:1-7, exegeting each verse, and shows us a group of Elisha's students who identify a problem, find a solution, embark on it and run in to complications. Find out how important it is to ask God to go with you and to do what he says.
Can Dead Bones Live?
Pastor Melvin takes us through Ezekiel 37 and exhorts us to speak truth from God's word into our minds, hearts and situations that seem impossible. When God breaths life into dead bones, they live.
Wisdom and Revelation
Pastor John shows us in 2 Kings 6:8 how the King of Syria has no chance against the Kingdom of Israel who has God on their side. There is a fight for our focus, and where we focus determines how well we fight. Fear comes from forgetting that God is in control. Pray that God will open your eyes.
The God of "Yet" and "Not Yet"
Like using old paper maps, we often live by outdated information on who we are. We feel confused and stressed when we compare where we are with where we think we should be. Yet God is the God of where you expect to go and the God of the detour. Join Pastor Melvin as he shows us how Mary and Joseph's detour was part of God's purpose, and how your difficult experiences can bring forth God's deliverance in your life.
God is God, and God is Good
The story of Christmas doesn't change, but we do. Join Pastor Melin in Luke 2 as he takes us through the old tale of the birth of Jesus and teaches fresh, sweet news. God comes for the unclean. God comes for the weak. God comes for the confused. And when you know that God has a plan for you, you can rest easy in his finished work.
Abraham, Isaac, and Esau
Pastor Melvin takes us to Genesis 25, the beginning of the story of Jacob, but this time focusing on Esau. Esau traded his birthright, his right to inherit a vast fortune, for a bowl of beans. Though that may sound foolish, we do it every day when we prioritize quick fixes over the joy God's plan has in store for us. Join Pastor Melvin as he teaches us how to beware of the habits that lead to regret and enjoy the birthright we already have as children of God.
I am Jacob
Learn through Jacob's life how to cling to the Lord instead of to things or who you think others want you to be.
The Light and the Limp
In Genesis 32:24-31, God touches Jacob's [meaning supplanter] thigh and changes his name to Israel [meaning God fights]. Pastor Melvin encourages us that in our lives, the Light often doesn't stop the limp; neither does the limp stop the Light.
Romance and Redemption
When you are threshing your wheat as Ruth was in chapter 2 of her story, you may feel beaten, but take courage, God is always at work in ways far beyond what you can see.
The X Factor
Beginning in Ruth 1:1, Pastor Melvin shows us how seemingly small decisions made by four different people had a large impact in their lives. Will you base your decision on reliance on yourself, emotions about your circumstances, what is reasonable from a carnal perspective or on the X Factor, the sacrificial love of our one true Lord and Savior, like Ruth did?
Gleaning
Beginning in Ruth chapter 1, Pastor John shows us a contrast between two women. Are you allowing your circumstances to define who you are like Naomi did when she changed her name to Mara, or are you gleaning as Ruth did and finding God at work no matter the delays, addictions, and disappointments, in your life or how downtrodden afflicted or destitute you feel.
Jesus is Light
Speaker:
McNeil Honea
Date:
Elder Honea begins in John Chapter 1, expounding on Jesus being the Light, and encouraging us in our life long battle to follow him by confessing our sins, cleansing our hands and purifying our hearts.
Up Look Determines Outlook
In Hebrews 11:24, Moses refused to be called a son of Pharoh. As children of God, we are not of this world. Is Christ in the center of your life? Is he what you are looking at to know what to do and how to conduct yourself? Elder Coker exhorts us to be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
Commitment
Elder Josh Coker takes 1 Samuel 17 as his text and shows us that without being committed to a cause, we will find ourselves empty, and the greatest cause to which we can commit ourselves is the cause of Christ.
Character of Man Versus God
In the familiar passage of Jonah 1-3, Elder Josh Coker shows us that our rebellious nature is pictured in the actions of Jonah, but our loving all powerful God orchestrates events in a way to bring us back to Him so that we can glorify him.
The Lies Against Us
Join Pastor Melvin in 1 Samuel 17:20-51 as he shows us the three lies we have to fight--"God is disappointed in you," "you can't change," and "you have nothing and nobody"--and how to fight them so we can enjoy the victory God has won for us through Jesus Christ!
Let the Process Work
1 Samuel 16 records David's journey from shepherd to king. What we may view as punishment, God uses to prepare us. Pastor Melvin highlights four poignant takeaways for us.
Worship
Pastor Melvin begins in Mathew 26:6 and shows us how we may not understand someone else's worship until we are aware of their warfare. Don't think of critics around you; focus on the cross. You will never regret anything that you give to the Lord.
Bad Religion vs Jesus Love
Bad religion does a lot of damage. It likes to invent rules, false consequences, and hierarchy. It seeks to control you, and where you won't be controlled, it breaks God's commands to shame and ostracize you. Jesus has been there too. Pastor Melvin walks us through John 11:45-54 where the Pharisees seek to kill him and Lazarus for undermining their control. But Jesus' message is different. He defines you as unconditionally loved and accepted no matter your past. Where bad religion speaks death, he speaks life. Come fellowship with him!
Gratitude in Pain
Do you ever wonder why God lets bad things happen and innocent people die? Join Pastor Melvin in John 11:13-44 as he walks us through why Jesus wept, and how gratitude for our empathetic, all-powerful savior can provide us comfort.
Does Jesus Care
Pastor Melvin takes us to John 11:17, expounds on Mary and Martha's responses to Lazarus' death, and shows us how we need to rest in Jesus and let him fight our battles.
From "Yet Again" to "Never Again"
Just like David facing yet another giant, we often find ourselves facing the same struggles "yet again", and like David, we find that we are weary of fighting the same fight over and over. Join Pastor Melvin as he takes us through 2 Samuel 21:15-17 to teach us how to get from fighting our battles "yet again" to "never again".
Are You the One?
In 2 Kings 14: 21-22, we see how we serve a big God when Azariah, King of Judah, who was 16 years old, was the one who rebuilt Elath. We all have moments when we feel insignificant and unprepared for what we face, but our big God can use us.
Celebrate!
In 1 Samuel 14:24, Saul gets so wrapped up in his agenda of pursuing his enemies (the Philistines) that he prevents his people from enjoying what they've earned. But the bible tells us that this is the day the Lord has made, and no matter what we're going through, we can always rejoice and be glad in the salvation he's given us. Don't let Satan take away the joy of what God has done for you. Join Pastor Melvin as he teaches us how to turn our deprivation into discipline and celebrate what God has done for us!
The Word of the Lord
The Word of the Lord is perpetual, personal, predestination revealing, and powerful. Turn with Pastor Melvin to Jeremiah 1:1 where he shows that with the knowledge of who the Word of the Lord says we are in Christ, we have the power to live more like him.
Living Life in the Sweet Spot
In 2 Chronicles 20:1, we see Jehoshaphat facing surprise attacks from enemies coming from several different directions. In this situation, set yourself to seek the Lord, and worship your way out of fear in order to live your life in the sweet spot.
Again
In John 21:1 Jesus showed himself again. The word "again" is used 651 times. God does not tire of teaching you and showing you again, who he is, who you are and how you need to grow.
Leviathan
We all have a leviathan in our lives--something we try to ignore, numb, or escape from--but we don't get a "tap out". In Isaiah 27:1-6, Isaiah prophecies about a day when the Lord will come and kill the leviathan and free us from the torment of our temptations. The best news is that that day came when Jesus died on the cross in our place! Join Pastor Melvin as he teaches us how to live in the freedom and protection that God has given us.
The Opposite of Love is Sin
It is often said that the opposite of love is hate, but God, being love, hates sin. Romans 13:10 and 6:23 teach us that sin is not merely a failure to meet his standard, but is in direct opposition to loving God and those around you. Love is selfless where sin is selfish. If you want to be a loving person, what should your perspective be on the sin in your own life?
Many Infallible Proofs
On the cross, Jesus' last word was "Tetelestai", meaning "it is finished"--but he did not say "I am finished" because he is still working through you today. Using Acts 1:1-4 as a reference, Elder Marty walks us through some of the many infallible proofs of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection that provide us comfort and inspiration in our walk today.
Acts 29
Are you in Malta right now? Are you facing pressure from all sides because of decisions other people made? In Acts 28, Paul teaches us to feed the Holy Spirit inside of us so that we can face that pressure with the joy and peace only God can give; through us, God can write another chapter of Acts.
Living Through Pain
Why do the snakes of life bite us, and how are we supposed to react? Join Paul in Acts 28 as he teaches us not to point the finger of blame for our pain, but to take it to the cross in prayer and reach out the open palm of love.
Be of Good Cheer, for I Believe God
What saves us from our storms is not our circumstances, but our mindset. The ship may sink, but the voices that we listen to will determine our outlook; others may insult you, you can doubt yourself, but God calls you loved. Let's follow Paul's example in Acts 27:13-26 as he believes God and fears not the loss of his ship.
Fix Your Focus
In Acts 27:9-22, Pastor Melvin shows us that living a life of faith means that sometimes we have to listen to the preacher instead of the professional. When we listen to the Lord instead of our experience and realize that nothing that really matters is at stake, our courage will no longer be based on our condition. We can be of good cheer and know that God is great, and God is good.
"Later" is a Dangerous Word
How do we get from where we are to where we need to be? Waiting until "later" is dangerous. Through God's Spirit and his Word, we can make changes now!
All Y'all Paul
Expounding upon 2 Corinthians 12:7-9, Pastor Melvin shows us that "all, y'all, Paul" have a thorn in the flesh from Satan, but God knows what you struggle with, and he uses your trials to bring you closer to him.
Graduate Guidance from Gideon
We do not need to hide like Gideon was in the Judges 6:7. God calls us, like he did Gideon, "mighty men of valor." We are able to go forward because God is with us!
Tuning
Pastor Melvin picks up his series in Acts 20:17 reminding us to get in tune with God and relate to him based on the grace of Jesus Christ not on efforts.
It's the Reel Thing
Our Easter 2024 message from John 21 expounds upon the period in Peter's life when he was in between walking with Jesus and what God had in store for Peter after the tomb. We are all "in between" people, struggling to find our purpose. What was the "reel" reason Peter went fishing?
The Turbulent Entry
Today, if we are going to truly follow the way of Jesus, we are going to encounter conflict. As we enter Holy Week, let's choose in each circumstance to confront the Pontius Pilots in our lives and enter into the abudant life that is possible in Jesus Christ.
